What this is

Baby Name Score is a decision-support tool. It helps you think through a name choice by surfacing researched information — meaning and origin (where documented), pronunciation, international usability, spelling considerations, and popularity data — alongside a score. It is not a source of objective truth about a name, and it is not medical, legal, psychological, educational, or employment advice of any kind.

You make the final decision

Naming a child (or anyone/anything else) is your decision. Nothing on this site should be read as telling you what to name someone — it's meant to help you see tradeoffs you might not have considered, using the same evidence you can see in the report.

Not a judgment about people

Baby Name Score evaluates a name — the spelling, sound, and documented history of a word — under our current methodology. It does not evaluate, and was never designed to evaluate, the worth, personality, intelligence, employability, trustworthiness, or quality of any person who bears that name. Don't use it, or let it be used, as an input to a decision about a specific person in employment, housing, credit, insurance, education admissions or access, healthcare eligibility or access, or any comparably consequential eligibility decision. It was not built or validated for that, and using it that way is outside what these terms permit.

Evidence has limits

Some names have well-documented meaning and origin; many don't. We say so explicitly rather than guessing — you may see “no dataset currently covers this spelling” or a similar honest gap, instead of an invented meaning. Popularity figures reflect the specific dataset and year cited on the page, not a universal truth about how common a name is everywhere.

What's public, what's ours

We don't claim ownership over public facts — a name's documented meaning, its recorded popularity, its pronunciation. Those exist independently of us and you're free to know and repeat them. What we do treat as ours: the specific editorial writing on this site, how we select and arrange evidence into a report, the report format itself, our methodology as expressed here (not the underlying idea of scoring names, which we don't claim to own), the interface, and the non-public systems behind all of it. Quoting or linking to a specific page is fine; reproducing the site is not — see below.

Acceptable use

Use this site for its intended purpose — researching and comparing names, on your own or for reference in your own writing. That includes normal browsing, personal research, linking to us, ordinary citation, and reasonable quotation. It does not include, and we prohibit:

• Bulk scraping or systematic enumeration of report or name pages
• Corpus harvesting or mirroring of the site's content
• Systematic republication of our pages elsewhere
• Reconstructing our dataset by crawling or probing it
• Building a competing name-report product from systematically harvested BabyNameScore output
• Systematic paraphrase or translation cloning of our editorial writing at scale
• Using our content to build or fine-tune a model, or to build a benchmark/evaluation dataset, from systematically harvested proprietary output
• Attempting to reverse-engineer our non-public scoring weights, prompts, or validators
• Sending automated or excessive volumes of report-generation requests
• Attempting to guess, enumerate, or brute-force private report links
• Circumventing any technical access control
• Using the site to harass or target a real, identifiable private individual

We may limit or block access when reasonably necessary to protect the service, its users, or our rights.

No warranty

The service is provided as-is. We work to keep information accurate and clearly sourced, but we don't guarantee it is complete, error-free, or suitable for any particular purpose.

Changes

We may update these terms as the product changes. This page always reflects the current terms; we don't maintain a version history of past terms publicly.
